It is a good truck, though how rare is in debate. Not sure how many are around these days but I have known quite a few owners of the r/t Dakotas.

Always loved those. They look and sound great
Not particularly fast, but definitely fun.

There was a Durango 5.9 R/T next to me at a stop light this week, that surprised me a little.
I also used to have a coworker with one (Durango 5.9 R/T). It kept up pretty well with the SS/SC that I had at the time.

Didn't have to be the R/T to have the 5.9 though. My dad had an 5.9l SLT Durango with the tow package. That thing was a beast. Though I'm no expert, I can't help but believe that the transmission cooler that came with the tow package is what let him go 270k without cracking open the engine or transmission, or diff, axles, anything. It was awesome.
